VSAT is an abbreviation for Very Small Aperture Terminal, which is an earth terminal used in data communication, voice and video through satellite.
The main function of VSAT is to receive and send data to the satellite, then the satellite functions as signal transmitter to be sent to other points (other earthterminal receiver) Patrakom provides three types of network technology for VSAT, which are:
In order to save up bandwidth, VSAT-IP service is implementing shared bandwidth in outbond (DVBS-2) and inbound (TDMA) to enable VSAT-IP service in saving the use of bandwidth.
This service using Star topology is favourable to provide service for data communication with low traffic that has bursty nature (temporary canal positioning).
VSAT-IP is able to provie communication needs starting from 2,4Kbps speed up to 2Mbps.
Generally VSAT-IP requires backhaul from the Hub location toward the User’s office location.
This backhaul is commonly using Metro-E service with fibre optic media.
Weather condition affecting the communication quality in this service can be overcome using ACM (Adaptive Coding Modulation) technology and AUPC (Automatic Uplink Power Control).
Parameter ACM and AUPC setting along with changes and monitoting on configuration and VSAT-IP bandwidth can be done from the NMS (Network Management System).
